The GoBonnies.com Athlete of the Week presented by CPL for the week ending Feb. 7 is women’s basketball senior Asianae Johnson.

Johnson led the Bonnies to a pair of Atlantic 10 wins last week over George Washington and Richmond, averaging 24.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game while shooting nearly 56 percent from the field and almost 91 percent from the free throw line.

Against the Colonials last Wednesday, Johnson scored 20 points on 9-of-18 shooting. Her two biggest points of the night came with four seconds left in the game, converting on the tying and go-ahead free throws to give the Bonnies the 50-49 win.

Johnson again shined against the Spiders Saturday in the Bonnies Pink Game, pouring in a game-high 28 points. Johnson scored 22 of her 28 points in the second half and finished the game hitting 9-of-10 shots. She finished the game 10-for-16 overall and was 8-for-9 from the charity stripe in 37 minutes.

The Brooklyn native has now scored 20 or more points in eight straight games, becoming the first Bonnies women’s basketball player to do so. During her eight-game stretch, Johnson is averaging 23.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game while shooting 50 percent from the field and 80 percent from the free throw line.
