The St. Bonaventure men's soccer team fell 5-2 at St. Joseph's Sunday, Oct. 13, extending the Bonnies' losing streak to three.
The Bonnies started out strong gaining the early lead when junior defender Nick Blair headed in their first goal in just the third minute of play. He was assisted by freshman midfielder Andy Garcia.
St. Joseph's fired back, scoring four consecutive goals. Forward Mike Guglielmucci scored at the 6:59 mark off a pass from midfielder Adam Duffy. Midfielder Matt James scored in the 22nd minute off a throw-in from midfielder Scott Cunningham. Duffy tacked on the final goal of the first half in the 27th minute with the assist from Andrew Kulinski, leaving the Bonnies down 3-1. Lateef Turrail opened the scoring in the second half at the 68:17 mark.
Senior midfielder John Phoumanny scored unassisted less than a minute later. Phoumanny's original attempt was on a penalty kick but was stopped by the Hawks' goalkeeper Kevin Dougher. Phoumanny's rebound shot was also block giving him another rebound shot for the goal.
St. Joseph's netted their final goal of the game in the 86th minute when Tom Brislin headed in a corner kick from Adam Pettit.
Sophomore goalkeeper Sean Eyde recorded nine saves on 26 shots in the loss.
The Bonnies fall to 6-5 overall, 1-3 in the Atlantic 10, while St. Joseph's improves to 7-5 overall, 2-3 in the A-10.
"We are extremely disappointed with the level of playing today," said head coach Bill Brady.
The Bonnies continue A-10 play at Rhode Island on Friday, Oct. 18. Kickoff is slated for 7:30
