Richmond downs Bonnies

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The St. Bonaventure men's soccer team suffered its first conference loss of the season to Richmond, 3-1, Sunday afternoon at McGraw-Jennings Field. The loss snapped the Bonnies three-game win streak.

Freshman midfielder Andy Garcia (Mississauga, Ontario/Fr. Michael Goetz) gave the Bonnies an early 1-0 lead in the 24th minute when his shot sailed over Richmond goalie Mike Nwaneri.

After the half, Richmond's Warren Cunningham scored the team's first goal in the 54th minute.

The game remained tied at 1-1 until late in the second half.

Colin Vint of Richmond scored in the 79th minute to give the Spiders the 2-1 lead. Three minutes later, Cunningham struck again from Vint to score the clincher for Richmond.

Sophomore goalie Sean Eyde (Tucson, Ariz./Salpointe Catholic) recorded five saves in the loss.

The loss drops St. Bonaventure to 6-3 overall and 1-1 in the Atlantic 10 conference. Richmond improves to 4-4-2 overall and 1-0-1 in the A-10.

St. Bonaventure will next travel to Temple on Friday, Oct. 11. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
