ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. -
The St. Bonaventure men's soccer team won its second straight game as it shut out Fordham, 3-0 in the final home game of the season at McGraw-Jennings Field.
Senior midfielder John Phoumanny (Elmira, N.Y./Elmira Free Academy) scored the Bonnies first goal in the 20th minute when he took a pass from senior midfielder Bob Hammer (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy). Hammer was on the left side of the field and crossed to Phoumanny in the middle for the score. The goal was Phoumanny's ninth goal of the season.
The Bonnies scored again in the 56th minute when freshman midfielder Andy Garcia (Mississauga, Ontario/Fr. Michael Goetz) took a crossing pass from Hammer and scored on a fast break.
Hammer capped off the victory with a goal in the 63rd minute when sophomore forward Misael Pedraza (Tomball, Texas/Tomball) passed him the ball from midfield.
Junior goalie Tim Landry (Rochester, N.Y./Northstar Academy) recorded two saves in the victory.
"This was a fantastic way for the seniors to end their home careers," said head coach Bill Brady. "I couldn't be happier for them. No one wants to lose their last game. Hopefully we can carry this momentum. There is no reason why we can't beat Duquesne."
With the win the Bonnies improve to 8-9 overall and 3-7 in the Atlantic 10 conference. Fordham drops to 4-13 overall and 1-9 in the A-10.
St. Bonaventure will play its final game of the season Saturday, Nov. 9, at Duquesne. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
