St. Bonaventure won its second straight game Saturday in front of a Parents Weekend crowd, defeating Cleveland State 4-1 at McGraw-Jennings Field.
Junior midfielder Geron DuPorte (Scarborough, Ontario/King Academy) scored a pair of goals in the win. He started the Bona offense early with a goal at the 12-minute mark of the first half. Senior midfielder John Phoumanny (Elmira, N.Y./Elmira Free Academy) assisted on the play.
St. Bonaventure quickly took a 2-0 lead when freshman defender Konrad Paszkowski (Calgary, Alberta/Lord Beaver Brook) scored on passes from junior defender Nick Blair (Stongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) and junior forward Jahmal Cameron (Scarborough, Ontario/St. Mary Catholic) in the 37th minute.
Cleveland State cut the Bona lead to 2-1 a minute later when Adrian Balc converted on a penalty kick.
In the second half, DuPorte netted his second goal of the game in the 62nd minute.
Freshman forward Dan Bowen (Tallahassee, Fla./Maclay) put on the finishing touches when he scored in the 87th minute for the Bonnies. Freshman midfielder Andy Garcia (Mississauga, Ontario/Fr. Michael Goetz) and freshman defender Ryan Ercoli (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas) assisted on the score.
St. Bonaventure outshot the Vikings, 16-8.
The Bonnies improve to 4-2 overall, while Cleveland State drops to 4-5 overall.
"We're starting to gel as a team," said head coach Bill Brady. "Our players showed tremendous strength in today's game."
The Bonnies will enter Atlantic 10 play as it hosts George Washington on Friday, Oct. 4. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.
