Bonnies fall to Colonials, 3-1

WASHINGTON, D.C. - WASHINGTON, D.C. - George Washington downed the St. Bonaventure men's soccer team, 3-1, Friday afternoon.

The Colonials got off to a quick start, as Arnar Johannsson netted the team's first goal on a penalty kick in the 6th minute.

The game remained 1-0 over the next 55 minutes until Johannsson scored his second goal past St. Bonaventure goalkeeper Sean Eyde (Tuscon, Ariz./Salpointe Catholic).

The Bonnies struck back as freshman forward Matt Keating (Rochester, N.Y./ Irondequoit) scored the first goal of his collegiate career in the 74th minute. Keating stole the ball from a defender and shot it past goalkeeper Derek Biss.

The Colonials sealed the victory in the 81st minute on a goal from Frank Ambrosio from Johannsson.

George Washington outshot St. Bonaventure 17-15. Keating led the Bonnies with four shots, three of which were on goal. Sophomore defender Konrad Paszkowski (Calgary, Alberta/Lord Beaver Brook) and junior defender Misael Pedraza (Tomball, Texas/Tomball) tallied three and two shots, respectively.

Eyde started the game in goal and finished with four saves.

The loss drops the Bonnies to 1-9-1 overall and 0-3 in Atlantic 10 play.

St. Bonaventure will take on the Richmond Spiders on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 7:00 p.m. in Virginia.
