MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -
A rocky start for St. Bonaventure resulted in a 4-1 loss at West Virginia Tuesday night at Hawley Field.
In first inning action, the Mountaineers jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead on a three-run home run from Lee Fritz over the left field fence. West Virginia plated one more run in the eighth on a single to right field from Tim Edmeads that scored Casey Bowling.
With time running out, the Bonnies put one run on the board in the ninth. Senior shortstop Eric Wilson doubled to left center, bringing in freshman third baseman Matt Marduesz, who walked and then reached second on a wild pitch.
West Virginia's Travis McGrath earned the win, pitching a complete game while allowing only five hits and striking out 13. St. Bonaventure junior Mike McCormack took the loss for the Bonnies and fell to 0-2 on the season.
The loss dropped the Bonnies to 3-6 on the season, while West Virginia improved to 7-10.
