St. Bonaventure fell at West Virginia Wednesday afternoon, 10-3, as the Mountaineers claimed the series, 2-0, at Hawley Field.
Both teams plated one run in the second. In the top of the inning, St. Bonaventure right fielder Brian Pellegrini hit a leadoff single and scored an unearned run to close the inning. In the bottom of the second West Virginia's Grant Psomas leadoff the inning with a single and later scored on a wild pitch. West Virginia scored nine runs over three innings to take control of the game.
In the fourth, Pelligrini singled to third and later scored on a single from junior second baseman Craig King. Freshmen designated hitter Josh Sova reached second on a double, then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Freshmen third basemen Matt Marduesz brought Sova in on a single up the middle. However, the Bonnies could not make a comeback, as the Mountaineers held them scoreless the rest of the way.
Senior Nate Cameron took the loss and dropped to 0-1 on the season. West Virginia's Levi Maxwell picked up the win, allowing eight hits and striking out eight.
The loss drops the Bonnies to 3-7 on the season, while the Mountaineers improved to 8-10.
The Bonnies are on the road for a three game series against Atlantic 10 foe Xavier, beginning Saturday Mar. 27 at noon.
