CINCINNATI, Ohio -
St. Bonaventure defeated Xavier in Atlantic 10 action Saturday at Hayden Field. The Bonnies won the opener 4-3 and the nightcap 4-1.
In game one, trailing 3-0 going into the sixth inning, the Bonnies put four runs on the board to come away with the victory. Junior second baseman Craig King plated three runs on a home run to left field. Senior shortstop Eric Wilson, who reached base on a walk, scored the winning run unearned.
King went 3-for-3 with three RBI on the day to lead the Bonnies offense. Sophomore Sean Bruet picked up the win for the Bonnies, allowing two hits in one inning on the mound. Freshman Brian Pellegrini was credited with the save.
The Bonnies continued to roll into game two, plating four runs in the fifth inning behind Wilson's home run to left center that pulled the Bonnies ahead, 4-1.
Pelligrini went 4-for-4 to lead the Bonnies, while Wilson went 2-for-3. Pitching a complete game, junior Mike McCormack earned the win for the Bonnies, allowing one run on seven hits while striking out five.
The win improved the Bonnies to 5-7 overall and 2-0 in A-10 action. Xavier dropped to 6-17 and 0-2 in conference play.
The teams complete the three-game series tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. at Hayden Field.
