Agostonelli leads Bonnies to sweep at Canisius

BUFFALO, N.Y. - St. Bonaventure swept Canisius in a doubleheader on Wednesday at Demske Sports Complex. The Bonnies took game one, 7-5, and won the nightcap 3-1.

The Bonnies jumped out to a 2-0 lead during in the opening inning of game one, scoring sophomore left fielder Dan Bratys and senior center fielder Matt Landahl.

Over the next two innings, the Golden Griffins plated five, but the Bonnies came back to score two in the fourth. Landahl singled up the middle and scored Bratys, who walked and stole second to put himself in scoring position. Landahl then reached third on a wild pitch and scored on a triple up the middle from freshman right fielder Brian Pellegrini,plating the winning run for Bona.

Pellegrini earned his second RBI in the sixth, scoring Bratys on a double down the left field line. The Bonnies went on to plate two more runs in the seventh to put the game away.

St. Bonaventure pitcher Matt Agostonelli earned the win on the mound, while Canisius' Jason Kaczmarek took the loss.

In game two action, Canisius' plated the first run of the game on Harpoot Padda's double off Agostonelli. The Bonnies answered in the second, as junior second baseman Craig King reached on a single to left field and scored on a fielders choice from freshman first baseman Kiernan Malone.

In the second, Landhal doubled to right field and scored unearned on a throwing error by the third baseman. The Bonnies pulled away in the fifth, as King singled to left field, bringing in Pellegrini, who reached base on a bunt.

Agostonelli earned his second win of the day for St. Bonaventure, improving to 2-1 on the season. Canisius' J.T. Wright was charged with the loss.

With the pair of wins, the Bonnies improved to 7-8 overall, while Canisius fell to 1-14.
