St. Bonaventure and La Salle split an Atlantic 10 Conference baseball doubleheader on Saturday at DeVincent Field. The Explorers won the opener 8-6 but St. Bonaventure came back with an 8-7 decision in the nightcap.
Senior shortstop Eric Wilson went 6-8 with four RBI and two home runs over the doubleheader to lead the Bonnies. He smacked solo home runs, his second and third of the year, in both games, and also had two doubles.
St. Bonaventure trailed 7-5 in the nightcap before rallying. Wilson homered in the sixth to make it 7-6. Senior outfielder/pitcher Matt Landahl had the game-winning hit, a two-run single in the eighth inning that put the Bonnies ahead 8-7.
Freshman outfielder/pitcher Brian Pellegrini came on in relief of Landahl, the starter, to nail down the win with 2-2/3 shutout innings. Pellegrini recorded his first collegiate win and also scored three runs in the game.
In the opener, La Salle jumped out to a 7-0 lead with six runs in the fourth inning. The Bonnies, who had 13 hits in the game to the Explorers' 11, cut the deficit to 8-6 with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, the sixth and the seventh.
Freshman third baseman Mike Marduesz went 3-4 with one RBI in the opener. Wilson was 3-4 with two runs and two RBI and Landahl also collected two hits.
Senior Soren Johnson suffered the loss and fell to 0-1.
The Bonnies are now 9-10 overall and 4-2 in A-10 action. La Salle is 14-14-2 overall and 1-8 in conference play.
St. Bonaventure will host Binghamton on Tuesday, April 13, in its home opener. The teams will play a doubleheader starting at 1:00.
