St. Bonaventure took both games of a doubleheader at Fordham, prevailing 15-5 in game one and 8-5 in game two at Jack Coffey Field.
In game one, the Bonnies took advantage early, jumping out to a 12-0 lead over the first two innings. In the first, the Bonnies plated seven runs on seven hits, highlighted by a triple and a double from freshmen right fielder Brian Pellegrini and third baseman Matt Marduesz, respectively. In the second, Pellegrini smacked a two-run home run, while Marduesz hit a three-run home run to give the Bonnies a comfortable lead. The Bonnies added one run in the fourth and two in the sixth to pull away with the win.
Senior Mike McCormick earned the win on the mound, improving his record to 3-2. Fordham's John Baco took the loss and dropped to 2-2 on the year.
In the nightcap, Fordham scored two runs in the seventh to tie the game at five and force extra innings. The Bonnies prevailed in the tenth inning, scoring three runs on two hits and three Fordham errors. Rams' pitcher Shingo Mitsumori hit Blakeley, advancing him to first and scoring senior shortstop Eric Wilson, who reached on a single, to secure the winning run. The Bonnies plated two more runs on a bunt from junior second baseman Shane Sudbrook and a walk from freshman left fielder Joe Rizzo.
Pellegrini earned the win for the Bonnies and improved to 2-2 on the season, while Fordham's Javier Martinez took the loss and fell to 1-3.
With the sweep, St. Bonaventure evened its record at 11-11 overall and 6-2 in Atlantic 10 action. Fordham dropped to 11-19-1 and 4-7 in conference play.
The teams wrap-up the three-game series Sunday at noon.
