Final Stats

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - St. Bonaventure swept a doubleheader from Canisius on Thursday afternoon at McGraw-Jennings Field. The Bonnies won the opener 8-1 and the nightcap 12-5. For the second time this season, junior pitcher/DH Matt Agostonelli won both ends of the doubleheader for Bona.

The Bonnies dominated Game 1 behind the complete game performance of Agostonelli, who took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and allowed just four hits while striking out four.

The Bonnies scored three runs in the opening inning, as senior centerfielder Matt Landahl singled to center field, driving in Matt Marduesz, who reached on a single. Later in the inning, junior second baseman Craig King drove in Landahl and freshman right fielder Brian Pellegrini on a single.

The Bonnies scored one in the third inning and had a four-run fifth inning to pull away from the Golden Griffs.

Wilson, Pellegrini and Marduesz all went 3-for-4 on the day, as the Bonnies tallied 16 hits overall.

In the nightcap, the Bonnies scored ten runs over the opening three innings en route to a 12-5 win. Marduesz highlighted the second inning with a three-run home run over the right field fence. Landahl and Agostonelli later doubled, each driving in a run. The Bonnies tacked on two insurance runs in the third, and one in each of the fourth and fifth innings. Canisius threatened with two runs in both the third and sixth, but the Bonnies pitching held them late in the game.

Agostonelli earned the win in Game 2, allowing only two runs on six hits in four innings of work.

St. Bonaventure improved to 15-13, while Canisius fell to 2-26 on the season.

St. Bonaventure will host Rhode Island in a three-game Atlantic 10 Conference series April 24-25 that opens with a doubleheader on Saturday at noon.
