St. Bonaventure completed a three-game sweep over Atlantic 10 rival Temple, winning 4-2 on Sunday afternoon at McGraw-Jennings Field.
Temple put two runs on the board in the second inning, as Justin Cooper drove in Jason Connor and Pete Colon scored on a St. Bonaventure error. The Bonnies plated one run in the third on a single from freshman third baseman Matt Mardeusz that scored senior shortstop Eric Wilson.
The Bonnies took control in the sixth, scoring three runs to pull away from the Owls. Temple pitcher Justin Mende hit sophomore designated hitter Matt Agostinelli to lead off the inning, while junior catcher Damian Blakeley followed up with a single. Sophomore left fielder Dan Bratys reached on a Temple error, scoring Agostinelli and Blakeley. Bratys then scored on a sacrifice fly from junior second baseman Craig King.
Bona senior Nate Cameron pitched a complete game, earning the win on the mound and improving to 2-1 on the season. Mende took the loss and fell to 2-3.
Agostinelli, Bratys, and freshman first baseman Kieran Malone led the Bonnies offensively, going 2-for-4 on the day. Freshman right fielder Brian Pellegrini chipped in with two hits in three at bats, while scoring one run.
With the sweep, the Bonnies improved to 19-17 on the year and 9-6 in A-10 action. Temple dropped to 17-19 and 6-9 in conference play.
The Bonnies travel to Buffalo, N.Y. on Tuesday for a doubleheader against Niagara beginning at 2 p.m.
