Bonnies down Saint Joseph's to complete sweep

NORRISTOWN, Pa. - St. Bonaventure defeated Saint Joseph's, 10-5, Sunday afternoon at Elmwood Park, completing the three-game series sweep.

The Bonnies plated three runs in the third inning, highlighted by a double down the left field line from senior shortstop Eric Wilson that scored junior second baseman Craig King. The Hawks plated two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame.

The Bonnies tacked on two more runs in the fourth, but pulled away from the Hawks with a five-run fifth inning. Freshman right fielder Brian Pellegrini led off the inning with a double to left field. Freshman left fielder Joe Rizzo drove Pellegrini in with a single, while junior catcher Damian Blakeley later singled, bringing in Rizzo. Freshman first baseman Kieran Malone singled, driving in Blakeley and sophomore designated hitter Matt Agostinelli, who reached earlier on a single. Wilson capped the rally with a double down the left field line, brining in Malone.

The Hawks threatened with a three-run sixth inning, but could not make the comeback, as neither team would score over the final three frames.

Bona senior Nate Cameron earned the win on the mound, evening his season record at 2-2. Cameron allowed five runs on nine hits, while striking out two in six innings of work. Pellegrini came on in the seventh and earned his sixth save of the season. He allowed no hits, no runs and struck out four.

The win improved the Bonnies to 22-17 overall and 12-6 in Atlantic 10 action. The Hawks dropped to 10-40 overall and 4-17 in conference play.

The Bonnies return home for a three-game weekend series against Massachusetts, beginning Saturday, May 14. Game 1 of a doubleheader is slated to begin at noon.
