ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. -
After 99 minutes of battling typical fall western New York weather, a pair of goals from junior Kerry O'Malley and an overtime goal by senior Kristin Walczewski propelled the St. Bonaventure women's soccer team past Fordham, 3-2, this afternoon at McGraw Jennings Field.
O'Malley scored her first goal of the season and the lone goal of the first half off a pass from sophomore Mara Primmer just seven minutes into play.
The Rams evened the score in the 50th minute when freshman forward Katie Sanchez zipped a shot passed the St. Bonaventure goalkeeper Lisa Eberhart, tying the game at 1-1.
With 8:52 remaining in regulation, Sanchez struck again, drilling a shot into the top of the net from 25 yards out to put the Rams back on top, 2-1.
Less than two minutes later, St. Bonaventure's O'Malley answered back with her second goal of the game off a rebound from a shot by senior defender Lois Bennett, sending the game into overtime.
At 99:36, St. Bonaventure's Walczewski netted the game-winner off a pass from senior forward Heather MacDougall to clinch the Bonnies first conference win of the season.
Eberhart earned the win in net for the Bonnies, making three stops on the afternoon.
With the win, the Bonnies improve to 2-11 overall and 1-4 in the A-10, while Fordham falls to 6-8 and 0-5 in conference play.
