Final Stats

PITTSBURGH - Sophomore pitcher Cody Vincent led St. Bonaventure to its first Atlantic 10 Conference victory of the season as the Bonnies defeated Duquesne 4-1 at Duquesne Field on Saturday.

Vincent struck-out 10 batters and allowed one unearned run on six hits in nine complete innings of work. Vincent is 1-0 on the year, while Dukes starting pitcher Scott Chisholm fell to 0-4.

In the fourth inning, St. Bonaventure junior shortstop Josh Perkins reached base on a Duquesne error and advanced to third when junior first baseman Brian Pellegrini doubled. Perkins and Pellegrini scored on sophomore designated-hitter Tristan Mulcahy's one-out RBI double to give the Bonnies a 2-0 lead.

Vincent retired the side in the fourth and fifth innings, striking out four of the next six Duquesne batters he faced. In the top of the sixth inning, junior third baseman Matt Mardeusz hit a solo home run to increase the Bona lead to 3-0. Mardeusz was the only Bona player with multiple hits, going 2-3 with an RBI, a run scored and a walk.

The Bonnies out-hit the Dukes 7-6 on the day.

St. Bonaventure added another run in the ninth inning on junior left fielder Joe Rizzo's RBI double. Duquesne scored its first run with two outs in the bottom of the inning, but Vincent got the next batter to ground-out to Mardeusz to end the game.

St. Bonaventure improved to 5-6 on the season and 1-1 in the conference despite committing three or more errors for the third consecutive game. With the loss, Duquesne fell to 4-13 and 1-1 in the A-10.

The Bonnies finish their three-game series with Duquesne on Sunday at noon.
