Final Stats

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Led by the offensive trio of senior Courtney Gibbons, junior Katie Hurley and sophomore Brenna Houghton, the St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse team defeated Canisius 20-9 Monday afternoon at Demske Sports Complex.

Gibbons, Hurley and Houghton each finished with seven points on the afternoon to guide the Bonnies to a season-high 20 goals. After tying the mark for assists in a game (5) against Marist, Houghton dished out six helpers to claim sole possession of the record. In the midst of her five goals and two assists, Hurley surpassed 100 points for her career. She now has 106 points on 76 goals and 30 assists. Gibbons also finished with five goals and two assists, giving her 11 points over the last two games.

With the win, the Bonnies improve to 6-0 for the third time in the last four years and have now won seven straight games dating back to last season. The brown and white along with Drexel, Duke, Johns Hopkins and Northwestern are the only undefeated teams remaining in Division 1.

The Golden Griffins opened the scoring just 1:12 into the game to take an early lead. St. Bonaventure took control of the contest with an 8-0 run that consumed the first 19 minutes of the half. During the run, Gibbons completed a hat trick while Hurley scored twice and senior Nicole Motondo, sophomore Stephanie Jordan and freshman Katelyn Faas scored once.

After a pair of Canisius goals made the score 8-3, the Bonnies scored three of the half's last four goals over the final 7:13 to take an 11-4 advantage into intermission. Hurley completed her third hat trick of the season during the run, while Faas notched a free position goal.

With a half still to play and the Bonnies in control, the brown and white added to their lead, outscoring Canisius 9-5 in the second half.

The Bonnies outshot the Griffs 38-22 in the game, including 20-8 in the first half. A season-low 11 turnovers helped St. Bonaventure convert on 13-of-14 clear attempts.

Faas recorded her third hat trick of the season just hours after being named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week. Motondo and Jordan each finished with two goals and one assist for three points. Sophomore Kimberly Ross added two points on a goal and an assist, while senior Alexis Spallone scored her fourth goal of the season.

Junior Eileen Gagnon became the third Bonaventure goalie to win her second game of the season. Gagnon turned away seven shots on the afternoon.

St. Bonaventure will enjoy an eight-day break before it welcomes Bucknell to McGraw-Jennings Field for its home opener on Tuesday, April 4. Gametime is scheduled for 4 p.m.
