Maine jumped out to a 6-0 lead and went on to a 14-10 win over St. Bonaventure on Tuesday in Palm Beach, Fla.
It was the Black Bears' second win over the Bonnies (0-3) in as many days.
St. Bonaventure had 13 hits on the afternoon but allowed 18 to Maine. Bonnies freshman Brian Hardner allowed six runs on eight hits over the first 3-2/3 innings of the afternoon. Freshman Jim Britton relieved Hardner and allowed six runs on six hits over 1-1/3 innings.
The Bonnies scored three times in the bottom of the third inning to trim their deficit to 6-3. Sophomore designated hitter Tristan Mulcahy smacked a run-scoring triple, junior shortstop Josh Perkins had an RBI single and junior first baseman Brian Pellegrini recorded an RBI on a fielder's choice ground out.
Maine, however, plated six runs against Britton in the top of the fifth inning to open a 12-3 advantage. The Bonnies scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth to pull within 14-9.
Eight players registered a hit for the Bonnies, led by sophomore T.J. Pennino's 3-for-5 performance at the plate. Pellegrini finished with two singles and two runs scored while clean-up hitter Joe Rizzo contributed two hits on the afternoon.
St. Bonaventure will return to the diamond tomorrow at 1 p.m. for the first of three contests over the next three days against Monmouth.
