DAYTON, Ohio - St. Bonaventure's comeback effort fell short against Dayton on Saturday afternoon, as the Flyers downed the Bonnies, 5-4, at Time Warner Cable Stadium.

The Flyers out-hit St. Bonaventure 9-7 on the day, and capitalized on three Bonnies errors in the first inning to open up an early 3-0 lead against sophomore pitcher Cody Vincent.

Vincent (1-1) allowed five runs (2 ER) on nine hits in eight innings of work for the loss, while Dayton starter Kyle Lindsay gave up only two runs on four hits to improve to 4-0 on the season.

In the fourth inning, junior leftfielder Joe Rizzo singled up the middle, scoring junior designated-hitter Brian Pellegrini from second base to close the Flyer lead to 3-1.

Dayton led by a score of 5-2 in the top of the eighth inning when Pellegrini drove the ball over the right field fence to score junior shortstop Josh Perkins, bringing the Bonnies within one run, 5-4. But Flyers pitcher Craig Rohren shut down the Bona offense and recorded the final six outs of the game for his third save of the season.

Pellegrini went 1-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs, while sophomore's Tristan Mulcahy and T.J. Pennino added two hits apiece.

St. Bonaventure fell to 7-7 on the season and 3-2 in Atlantic-10 play, while Dayton improved to 11-12 on the year and 2-3 in the conference.

The Bonnies wrap up their three-game set with Dayton on Sunday at noon.
