April 2, 2006

Box Score

DAYTON, Ohio - Dayton scored five runs in the fifth inning and went on to a 7-4 win over St. Bonaventure on Sunday afternoon in the finale of the teams' three-game series at Time Warner Cable Stadium.

St. Bonaventure fell to 7-8 overall and 3-3 in the Atlantic 10 Conference, while Dayton moved to 12-12 and 3-3.

St. Bonaventure took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Sophomore center fielder Randy Moley scored from third base on a wild pitch by Dayton's Quinn Haselhorst and junior left fielder Joe Rizzo followed with an RBI ground out.

Dayton, though, tied the game in the bottom of the first against Bonnies starter Eddie Williams. After the Flyers loaded the bases, Williams forced in a run with a walk. Craig Rohren then added an RBI single.

The game remained deadlocked until the bottom of the fifth when the Flyers erupted for five runs on six hits to open a 7-2 lead. Roberto Ramos had the biggest blow, a two-run double.

Junior third baseman Matt Mardeusz's solo home run in the sixth inning made it 7-3, and in the eighth Rizzo cut the Bonnies' deficit to 7-4 with a solo shot. It was Rizzo's second homer of the series and sixth of the year.

Reliever Ryan Kerr (0-1) was charged with the loss. He was charged with all five runs that St. Bonaventure allowed in the fifth inning after he came on for Williams. Haselhorst, who allowed nine hits and four runs over eight innings, was the winner.

Mardeusz and Moley each had two hits for the Bonnies, who were out-hit 12-9.

The Bonnies will return to action on Tuesday, April 4, when they visit Canisius at 3:00.
