Bonnies run A-10 win streak to six with 9-2 win over Xavier

ST.BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - St. Bonaventure won its sixth straight Atlantic 10 Conference game on Saturday afternoon, a 9-2 decision over Xavier at McGraw-Jennings Field.

Junior shortstop Josh Perkins went 4-5 with two RBI and two runs while junior first baseman Brian Pellegrini hit a grand slam home run and finished 3-4 as the Bonnies out-hit Xavier 14-7.

The Bonnies trailed 1-0 through four innings but took the lead with three runs in the fifth and then added another in the sixth.

Junior third baseman Matt Mardeusz had the key hit in the fifth inning, a bases-loaded, two out single that scored two runs. Freshman catcher Brandon Salerno smacked run-scoring triple in the sixth.

St. Bonaventure put the game out of reach with five runs in the eighth highlighted by Pellegrini's grand slam. It was Pellegrini's 10th home run of the year.

Sophomore Cody Vincent allowed one unearned run on three hits over the first five innings and earned the win, improving to 4-2 this year. Senior Matt Agostinelli threw three innings of relief and allowed one run on four hits.

Mardeusz, Salerno and sophomore right fielder T.J. Pennino each recorded two hits. Bona left fielder Joe Rizzo and center fielder Randy Moley each robbed Xavier batters of home runs.

St. Bonaventure, which secured its fourth straight series win with Saturday's victory, stands in fourth place in the Atlantic 10 with a record of 11-5. The Bonnies improved to 18-15 overall. Xavier fell to 3-14 in the A-10 and 13-33 overall.

The Bonnies and Musketeers will complete their three-game series on Sunday at noon.
