Final Stats

AMBLER, Pa. - St. Bonaventure defeated Temple, 12-2, on Friday afternoon in the opener of the teams' three-game Atlantic 10 Conference series at Ambler Sports Complex.

The Bona bats pounded out 13 hits, including homeruns from junior Matt Mardeusz, and sophomore T.J. Pennino and Randy Moley. Pennino went 3-for-5 at the dish with a double and three RBI. Mardeusz also finished with three RBI, while Moley scored a season-high four times.

Not to be outdone, senior southpaw John Zinnicker allowed just one earned run over eight innings of work. Zinnicker allowed six hits, walking one and striking out six to improve 6-2 on the season.

Moley led off the game win a solo blast into left field for his second round tripper of the season to give the Bonnies a 1-0 lead. St. Bonaventure plated a run in the third as Moley came across on an RBI single from Pennino.

With the score 2-1, the brown and white broke open the contest with a four-run fifth for a 6-1 edge. Again it was the sophomore duo of Moley and Pennino getting things started. Pennino doubled home Moley and junior Brian Pellegrini for the first two runs of the inning. Mardeusz followed with an RBI sacrifice fly to left and senior Matt Agostinelli singled home the last run.

Temple would one come as close as four, 6-2, the rest of the way as the Bonnies plated one run in the sixth, two in the seventh and three in the ninth for the convincing win.

Eight of the nine St. Bonaventure starters recorded a hit on the afternoon. Agostinelli and juniors Kieran Malone and Josh Perkins were among four players to have at least two hits.

St. Bonaventure is now 23-17 overall and 15-6 in the Atlantic 10 Conference, while Temple dropped to 11-37 overall and 5-15 in the A-10.

Game two of the Bonnies-Owls series is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m.
