Box Score

AMBLER, Pa. - St. Bonaventure's chance at first place in the Atlantic 10 baseball standings slipped away with a 4-2 loss at Temple on Saturday afternoon at Ambler Sports Complex.

The Bonnies (23-18/15-7 Atlantic 10), who had defeated Temple 12-2 on Friday, managed only four hits on the day and did not score until the eighth inning. The Owls (12-37/6-15), meanwhile, jumped out to a 4-0 lead with a pair of runs in both the fifth and sixth innings.

Temple pitcher Arshwin Asjes held the Bonnies off the scoreboard through seven innings. Asjes allowed only two hits before giving way to reliever Tim Foulkrod in the seventh. Sophomore center fielder Randy Moley greeted Foulkrod with a single that moved freshman catcher Brandon Salerno, who had reached on a fielder's choice, to third base. Junior shortstop Josh Perkins followed with a double to left field that scored Salerno and made it 4-1. After Temple intentionally walked junior first baseman Brian Pellegrini to load the bases with one out, junior left fielder Joe Rizzo lifted a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Moley and made it 4-2. But Foulkrod struck out sophomore right fielder T.J. Pennino to end the threat.

Bonnies' starter Cody Vincent threw a solid 6-1/3 innings but was charged with the loss to fall to 5-3. The sophomore allowed three runs on six hits with five strikeouts and three walks. Freshman Jim Britton threw the final 1-2/3 innings in relief.

The Bonnies and Owls will complete their series on Sunday. First pitch is set for noon.
