BRONX, N.Y. -
St. Bonaventure advanced to the championship round of the Atlantic 10 Baseball Tournament with a 9-2 win over George Washington on Saturday at Houlihan Park.
The Bonnies (28-20) will face Saint Louis at 3:30 on Saturday afternoon, but they need to knock off the Billikens twice in order to win the A-10 Championship. If necessary, a second game would be played on Sunday at noon. Saint Louis is 3-0 in the double-elimination tournament while St. Bonaventure is 2-1.
Saturday, the Bonnies picked up where they left off in a game that was suspended late Friday night by thunderstorms. Leading 3-1 when play resumed at noon, the Bonnies pushed two more runs across in the bottom of the second to open a 5-1 lead. George Washington, the upstart No. 6 seed who eliminated No. 1 seed Rhode Island on Friday night, cut the lead to 5-2 in the fourth.
St. Bonaventure erased any chance of a GW comeback with a three-run sixth to make it 8-2. Sophomore center fielder Randy Moley had an RBI double, junior shortstop Josh Perkins scored a run with a single and Moley later scored on a wild pitch.
Junior Eddie Williams came on for starter Jim Britton to throw the final 4-1/3 innings and earn the win. The southpaw allowed only one hit and did not surrender a run as he improved to 5-5. Britton was also strong as he went 4-2/3 and allowed two runs on six hits with six strikeouts.
Moley finished 3-3 with two RBI and three runs while senior third baseman Matt Agostinelli finished 3-4. Junior second baseman Kieran Malone went 2-2 and scored three times, while Perkins was 1-3 with three RBI.
