Men's soccer drops 1-0 Friday night decision at UB

Sept. 15, 2006

AMHERST, N.Y. - Mat Wilkinson scored in the 74th minute and Buffalo held on for a 1-0 win over St. Bonaventure on Friday evening at UB Stadium.

Wilkinson scored off a throw-in from teammate Brian Napp, taking the pass and re-directing the ball past Bonnies junior goalkeeper Ben Nida.

Nida made four saves in the loss. His counterpart, Daniel Bell, made six saves for the shutout.

The Bulls out-shot the Bonnies 12-10. Junior Phil Amahazion led St. Bonaventure with three shots.

St. Bonaventure played without All-Conference midfielder Kevin Omokhua and starting goalkeeper Ken Lish, both of whom are out with injuries.

"This is another game that could have gone either way," said Bona head coach Mel Mahler. "We're still searching for answers, but we're not going to get wrapped up in our record. We are an improving team and we're focused on getting better."

The loss drops St. Bonaventure to 0-6 on the season, while Buffalo improved to 4-2-1.

St. Bonaventure is off until next Wednesday, Sept. 20, when it will host Niagara in its first home game of this season. The game will start at 5:00 at McGraw-Jennings Field.
