Bonnies fall at Fordham

Oct. 26, 2007

BRONX, N.Y. - After consecutive 0-0 draws against the Rams in the last two seasons, the St. Bonaventure men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision at Fordham on Friday night in the club's first of two Atlantic 10 road contests this weekend.

The Bonnies fall to 5-5-1, 2-2 after having their two-game win streak snapped at Jack Coffey Field, while the Rams pick up their second straight victory to improve to 4-6-3, 3-1.

"Tonight was an example that there are no easy games in this conference," said head coach Mel Mahler. "Fordham is a very well organized defensive team and they found a way to win the contest."

Following a scoreless first half with only three combined shots, Fordham tallied the game's only score just under 15 minutes into the second stanza. Senior forward Dean Stanic's fourth goal of the season proved to be the game-winner as his one-timer from 15 yards out found the back of the net at the 59:55 mark. Fellow classmate Kevin Meyer dished out his second assist of the season when his cross connected with Stanic to send the Rams past the Bonnies.

Although the Brown and White only registered four overall shots in the match, freshman Pasquale Rago nearly tied the game at 1-1 when his shot banged off the woodwork in the 82nd minute. Senior Nick Lopez and freshman David DiNardo each fired one shot on target.

Freshman goalkeeper David Flynn made three saves in the losing effort as the offensive attack failed to produce a score for the fourth time this year.

The Brown and White return to action on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Philadelphia to take on La Salle at 2:30 p.m.
