Bonnies drop game two of Duke series, 14-6

DURHAM, N.C. - Duke scored seven runs in the first inning and went on to a 14-6 win over St. Bonaventure on Saturday at Coombs Field.

In the second game of the teams' three-game series, the Blue Devils roughed up Bonnies starter Eddie Williams right from the start. Duke recorded seven hits in that opening frame, then plated two more runs in the third to open up a 9-0 lead.

St. Bonaventure scored four times in the sixth inning by capitalizing on three hit batters, two walks and one Duke error. Senior shortstop Josh Perkins had the Bonnies' only hit in the frame, an RBI single.

Duke plated four runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh against freshman reliever Dan Wach to increase its lead to 14-4.

The Bonnies plated two runs in the ninth highlighted by an RBI single by senior left fielder Joe Rizzo.

Williams (0-1) took the loss.

Duke (5-0) finished with 19 hits on the day while St. Bonaventure had 10. Perkins led the way with a 3-5 performance at the plate. Rizzo finished 2-3.

The Bonnies (0-2) and Blue Devils will complete their series on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
