March 10, 2007

Box Score

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - St. Bonaventure had 22 hits and starting pitcher Michael Proctor handled the rest as the Bonnies pounded Maine, 21-7, on Friday afternoon at Santa Luces Sports Complex.

The win came after the Bonnies had suffered back-to-back losses in the two days following their upset win over Miami.

St. Bonaventure totaled nine hits of the extra-base variety including home runs by Brian Pellegrini and Josh Perkins. The Bonnies jumped out for 10 runs over the first four innings. A two-run homer by Perkins and a two-run double by sophomore second baseman Kevin Suminski highlighted a five-run Bona third inning. Suminski added a two-RBI triple in the fourth.

Proctor, a red-shirt junior lefthander who missed the entire 2006 season due to a shoulder injury, threw seven strong innings to improve to 1-1. He allowed only two runs over the first six innings before tiring and giving up five in the seventh. Proctor gave up just seven hits, walked only one and recorded nine strikeouts. Freshman Dan Wach came on to pitch a perfect eighth and ninth.

Pellegrini ended what had been a slow start to his season with a 5-6, five RBI performance. Suminski also had five RBI and finished 3-5. Junior center fielder Randy Moley also had quite a day with four hits in four at-bats while Tristan Mulcahy finished 4-6 with three RBI. Moley and Pellegrini combined for 11 of the Bonnies' 22 runs scored.

The Bonnies will play Long Island University on Saturday and New Jersey Tech on Sunday to complete their week in Florida.
