Box Score

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Less than 24 hours removed from one of the biggest wins in program history, the St. Bonaventure baseball team endured possibly one of its most bizarre games on Wednesday.

In game that featured 31 runs, 37 hits, nine errors and nine pitchers the Bonnies (2-6) wound-up on the wrong side of a 17-14 slugfest against Penn.

The Quakers (3-2) jumped all over Bona starter Cody Vincent plating five runs in the first and four in the third to take a 9-2 lead. The lefty from Warren, Pa. lasted just 2-2/3 innings, giving up 10 hits and six earned runs.

St. Bonaventure answered back with four runs of its own in the bottom of third to make it a 9-6 game. Shortstop Josh Perkins brought home the first run with an RBI single. With two on and still no outs, senior Brian Pellegrini delivered a two-run double into right center field to score Randy Moley and Perkins. The last run of the inning came with two outs as Tristan Mulcahy brought home Pellegrini with a single.

After a scoreless fourth, the scoring barrage returned in the fifth as Penn came back with for more runs to extend its lead to 13-6.

The Bonnies climbed to within four, 13-9, in the fifth, but the Quakers continued to pour it on as they scored three more of their own in the sixth to push it back to a seven-run game, at 16-9.

Redshirt freshman Cory Sudbrook and senior Ryan Kerr held Penn to one unearned run over the final three innings, but the Bona bats in order in the eighth and ninth.

All but one of starter recorded a hit for the Bonnies as they pounded out 15 on the day. Junior T.J. Pennino went 3-for-5 with a double, triple, three runs scored and three RBI. Mulcahy also collected three hits and two RBI, while Kevin Suminski drove-in three runs on two hits.

St. Bonaventure will be back in action against Mount St. Mary's for the second time this week on Thursday.
