Baseball falls to Mount St. Mary's, 7-1

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - St. Bonaventure had 12 hits but stranded 11 baserunners and lost, 7-1, to Mount St. Mary's on Thursday night at Santa Luces Sports Complex.

Dustin Pease, the 2006 Northeast Conference Pitcher of the Year, shut out the Bonnies for six innings. He allowed seven hits, struck out four and did not walk a batter to earn the win.

After five scoreless innings, Mount St. Mary's tagged Bonnies starting pitcher Jim Britton for three runs in the sixth. Stephan Fay's two-run single was the big hit of the frame.

St. Bonaventure scored its only run of the night in the seventh inning, when Bucky Kosyk came on in relief of Pease. Sophomore first baseman Tristan Mulcahy, sophomore catcher Brandon Salerno and junior center fielder Randy Moley had three consecutive singles with Moley's scoring Mulcahy from third base.

The Mount expanded its lead to 5-1 in the eighth, then added two more insurance runs in the final frame.

Sophomore Jim Britton went eight innings on the mound but suffered the loss. Britton (1-1) allowed five runs on eight hits with six strikeouts.

Moley led the Bonnies' offense, finishing 4-5. Sophomore second baseman Kevin Suminski went 3-4 while senior shortstop Josh Perkins was 2-5.

The Bonnies fell to 2-7 on the season including 2-4 on their Florida trip. Mount St. Mary's improved to 4-9.

St. Bonaventure will play Maine on Friday at 1:30.
