Bonnies bury Binghamton, 19-7

ALFRED, N.Y. - Led by seven goals from sophomore Katelyn Faas, the St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse team never trailed in a 19-7 non-conference win over Binghamton on Tuesday afternoon at Merrill Field.

Five of Faas' seven goals came in the second half as the Bonnies (6-4) outscored the Bearcats 12-5 in the final frame. Faas also added two assists to finishing with nine points, while junior Brenna Houghton scored two goals and passed out a game-high five assists for seven points.

The Brown and White outshot Binghamton (1-11) 40-19 for the game and held a slight edge, 15-13, in draw controls.

St. Bonaventure held the Bearcats scoreless for the first 28:15 and in the meantime jumped out a 5-0 lead. Freshman Lynsey Wagner tallied the first two goals of the contest followed by one score each from Faas, Houghton and junior Stephanie Jordan. The final 1:45 of the half saw each team score twice as the Bonnies took a 7-2 lead into the locker room. Sophomore Keri Vito scored Bonaventure's sixth goal of the game and Faas scored her second of the half.

The Bearcats notched the first goal of the second half, but the Bonnies quickly responded with a 6-0 run to take a commanding 13-3 lead with 14:57 left. After sitting out most of the first half, junior Kimberly Ross came off the bench anything but cold, scoring three goals during the run to record her eighth hat trick of the season. Freshman Patty Nessle, Faas and Vito scored the other three goals.

Binghamton picked up its play over the next four minutes notching three of the games next four goals to make it 14-6.

The final 9:30 belonged to Faas and the Bonnies as the West Henrietta, N.Y. native had a hand in the team's final five goals. Faas scored four times during the run and dished out the assist on Nessle's second goal of the game.

Junior Eboni Preston picked up her 20th career win in cage, making 10 saves on the afternoon.

Ross finished with four points in limited action, while Vito and Nessle each two goals and one assist.

St. Bonaventure returns to Atlantic 10 play on Friday when it hosts Temple at McGraw-Jennings Field. Draw time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
