BUFFALO, N.Y. - Brian Pellegrini hit two home runs and went 3-6 with three RBIs on the day as St. Bonaventure won both games of a doubleheader against Big 4 rival Canisius on Wednesday evening at the Demske Sports Complex.

Pellegrini belted the second of his two round-trippers in the final inning of game one to break a 4-4 tie as the Bonnies went on to win 5-4. The Golden Griffins intentionally walked Pellegrini twice in the second game as the Bonnies' senior slugger finished 1-3 with an RBI in a contest that St. Bonaventure won 11-5.

The teams played seven innings because it was a mid week non-conference doubleheader. The two home runs up Pellegrini's total to 10 on the season. He has also tallied 38 RBIs and a .396 batting average.

St. Bonaventure trailed 3-1 after three full innings in game one, but jumped out to a 4-3 lead in the fourth thanks to an RBI single by designated hitter Tristan Mulcahy a bases-loaded walk issued to sophomore shortstop Kevin Suminski and a wild pitch that scored senior infielder Josh Perkins from third.

The Golden Griffs evened the score at 4-4 in the bottom of the sixth frame, but Pellegrini - who homered in the first inning - drove the ball over the left field fence in the seventh to give the Bonnies a 5-4 lead. Perkins pitched the bottom half of the inning for St. Bonaventure, and struck out two batters en route to his second save of the season.

St. Bonaventure again trailed 3-1 in game two, but crossed the plate five times in the third inning to take a 6-3 lead. The Bonnies added two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to widen the lead to 9-3, and held on for an 11-4 win thanks to a strong combined pitching effort from Brian Hardner, Dennis Sherba, Jim Britton, Pellegrini and Perkins. The five allowed five runs (one earned) on six hits.

Sherba (2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 K) earned the win in game two, while senior Ryan Kerr improved his record to 3-0 with a win in game one.

St. Bonaventure, now 13-16 overall and 5-6 in the Atlantic 10 Conference, returns to action with a three game home set against Rhode Island this weekend. Game one is set for Friday at 3 p.m.
