St. Bonaventure moved into the championship game of the Big 4 Baseball Classic with a 14-7 win over Buffalo on Tuesday night at Sal Maglie Stadium.
For the third year in a row, the Bonnies will play Canisius, which was an 8-5 winner over Niagara in Tuesday's other opening round game, in the title game on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Bonnies starter Michael Proctor (Galeton, Pa.) held the Bulls in check over his five innings of work and recorded his fourth win of the year. He allowed only one run on two hits with six strikeouts.
His teammates supported Proctor with 10 runs over the game's first four innings. The Bonnies struck for two runs in the first, three in the second and five more in the fourth frame. Senior right fielder Brian Pellegrini blasted his 11th home run of the season, a two-run shot to center field, to open the scoring.
St. Bonaventure ended up with 14 hits on the night. Kieran Malone led the way with a 3-5 performance. Kevin Suminski, Joe Rizzo, Josh Perkins and Tristan Mulcahy all had two hits.
St. Bonaventure is now 15-18 overall. Buffalo fell to 7-26.
