ARLINGTON, Va. -
St. Bonaventure jumped out to an 8-1 lead after three innings and went on to a 10-4 win over George Washington on Friday at Barcroft Park.
The win came in the middle contest of the teams' three-game series and snapped the Bonnies' four-game Atlantic 10 Conference losing streak. St. Bonaventure is now 9-15 overall and 3-5 in the A-10.
The Bonnies scored three runs in the second inning and five more in the third to open their commanding lead. Senior Brian Pellegrini's two-out, two-run single keyed the second frame, then he added a two-run double in the third inning. Junior Josh Sova also had a two-run single in the third.
Sova smacked a solo home run in the fifth inning to make it 9-1.
Bona starter Mike Proctor made the early lead stand with a strong performance of his own. Proctor (3-5) allowed just one unearned run on six hits over seven innings of work.
Pellegrini finished 3-5 with four RBI while Sova went 2-3 with three RBI. Joe Rizzo and Tristan Mulcahy both had two hits for St. Bonaventure.
George Washington fell to 11-19 and 3-5.
The Bonnies and Colonials will complete their series on Saturday. First pitch is at noon.
