Box Score

ARLINGTON, Va. - St. Bonaventure rode the arm of junior Cody Vincent to a 5-2 win over George Washington on Saturday at Barcroft Park, giving the Bonnies the Atlantic 10 Conference series two games to one.

St. Bonaventure is now 10-15 overall and has climbed back to 4-5 in the A-10.

Vincent (1-4) went the distance for his first victory this season. He allowed only five hits and struck out nine, one shy of his career best.

The Bonnies scored single runs in the first, second and sixth innings to open a 3-0 lead. Senior left fielder Joe Rizzo's two-out single in the first scored classmate Brian Pellegrini, who had singled and advanced to second base on a throwing error. In the second frame, junior center fielder Randy Moley reached on an error by GW shortstop Michael Parker, then moved up on passed ball and then stole third. Moley then scored on a ground out by senior shortstop Josh Perkins. Rizzo then lifted a solo home run, his first this season, in the sixth inning.

Vincent, meanwhile, allowed only one hit over the first five innings. GW scored its only runs of the day on a two-run homer by Parker in the sixth.

The Colonials managed only one hit over the final three innings. The Bonnies tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the seventh. St. Bonaventure, which did not commit an error, took advantage of five George Washington errors.

For the third straight game, Pellegrini keyed the Bonnies. He went 2-4 on the day and finished the series 8-14. Rizzo and sophomore second baseman Kevin Suminski both went 2-5.

George Washington fell to 11-20 and 3-6.

The Bonnies' next game will be at home against Canisius on April 11 at 3:00.
