ALFRED, N.Y. - The St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse team built a six-goal lead midway through the first half and went on to a 13-6 Atlantic 10 win over Saint Joseph's on a frigid Sunday afternoon at Merrill Field.

The Bonnies (4-4) have now won three-straight and are 2-0 in the A-10. The loss is the third in a row for the Hawks as they fall to 4-5 and 0-2 in the conference.

The six goals allowed tied a season-low for junior goalie Eboni Preston and the Bona defense. Preston continued her strong play in cage, turning away 11 shots on the afternoon, including eight in the second half.

Back-to-back goals by sophomore Katelyn Faas and junior Stephanie Jordan gave the Bonnies a 2-0 lead just 2:01 into the game. Faas' goal came off a feed from junior Brenna Houghton.

The Hawks made it 3-2 at the 17:25 mark, but their momentum was brought to an abrupt halt 10 seconds later as junior Kimberly Ross collected the ensuing draw control and sprinted all the way through the Saint Joseph's defense for the score. Ross' goal ignited a game-changing 5-0 Bona run that ballooned the lead to six, at 8-2. Faas notched her third and fourth goals of the gamed during the run, while freshman Molly Hastrich and Ross contributed the other two scores.

Saint Joseph's broke its 17-minute scoreless drought with two goals in the final 26 seconds to make it an 8-4 score at the half.

The Brown and White used ball control offense to regain momentum in the second half not allowing a goal in the opening 23 minutes of the frame. Freshman Patty Nessle's unassisted goal seven minutes into the half opened the scoring and started a 3-0 St. Bonaventure run. Houghton converted on a free position shot for the second goal, while freshman Lynsey Wagner hit the back of the Saint Joseph's net off a pass from Jordan to make it 11-4.

The Hawks tallied two-straight scores before goals from Ross and Houghton provided the 13-6 outcome.

Faas finished with a team-high four goals, followed by Ross' sixth hat trick of the season. Houghton totaled four points on a goal and two helpers, while Jordan and Nessle each chipped in with two points.

St. Bonaventure is back in action on Tuesday when it visits A-10 rival Duquesne.
