The St. Bonaventure baseball team geared up for its upcoming A-10 weekend series by pounding out 31 hits and scoring 23 runs in a doubleheader split against Buffalo on Tuesday afternoon at Audubon Field.
The Bulls took the opener 17-7 as the Bona pitching staff issued 15 walks and gave up 13 hits. The Bonnies responded with 19 hits in game two en route to a 16-5 triumph.
Senior All-American candidate Brian Pellegrini brought his season home run total to 14 with a round tripper in each game and moved into a tie with Mike Rapacioli for first place in the Bona single-season record books. Pellegrini went 5-for-7 with a double, three RBI and six runs scored.
Seven different players had multi-hit afternoons for the Brown and White. Senior Kieran Malone went 4-for-7 with four runs and three RBI. Senior Josh Perkins finished with four hits, highlighted by a home run and a team-high five RBI. Senior Joe Rizzo went 3-for-7 with three runs, a home run and five RBI. Junior T.J. Pennino and sophomore Kevin Suminski had three hits apiece.
The split moves St. Bonaventure to 23-24 overall, while the Bulls are now 16-32 on the season.
St. Bonaventure will look to secure an A-10 postseason berth in its three-game series of the regular season. The Bonnies will welcome Temple to Fred Handler Park on Thursday for a 3 p.m. start.
