May 2, 2007

Box Score

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Kyle Gorby's pinch-hit single scored the winning run as St. Bonaventure pulled off an extra inning victory in game two of a doubleheader split against Le Moyne Wednesday afternoon at Dick Rockwell Field.

Gorby was sent to the plate in place of senior Matt Mardeusz with two outs and runners on first and second in the ninth. Gorby drove a single to right field that scored second baseman Kieran Malone to put the Bonnies up 5-4.

Freshman right-hander Adam Bristol recorded three straight outs for St. Bonaventure in the bottom half of the inning to pick up the save, while freshman Cory Sudbrook was awarded the win. Sudbrook entered the game in the seventh inning, allowing two hits and striking out two batters in 1.1 innings of work.

Le Moyne won the first game 6-1 thanks to a strong batting performance by shortstop Andy Parrino. Parrino went 3-4 with a double, a homerun and two RBI as the Dolphins extended their win streak to 14 games before falling in game two.

Both games were scheduled for seven innings due to the fact that it was a mid-week non-conference doubleheader.

With senior powerhouse Brian Pellegrini sidelined with a hamstring injury, the Bonnies got strong offensive performances from Malone, Kevin Suminski, and Joe Rizzo. Rizzo went 2-8, but recorded four RBI on a homerun and a double. Suminski finished the day 3-4 while Malone went 5-8 with a double and two runs scored.

St. Bonaventure stands at 19-20, while Le Moyne is now 22-15 overall.

The Bonnies return to action with a three game home stand against Atlantic 10 Conference rival Duquesne. Game one begins at 4 p.m. on Friday.
