Box Score

DAYTON, Ohio - The sixth-seeded St. Bonaventure baseball team fell to third-seeded Richmond, 8-2, in the opening round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament on Wednesday afternoon at Fifth Third Field.

The Bonnies will now take on fourth-seeded Xavier, who fell to Rhode Island 4-3 in the first game of the day. First pitch will be at approximately 7:35 p.m.

Richmond's Alex Hale (8-3) held the Bona bats in check for 7 and one-third innings. Hale limited the potent Brown and White lineup to one run on five hits, while striking out six. Second team All-Conference selection Brian Alas relieved Hale in the eighth and closed out the game.

Like his counterpart, sophomore J.B. Britton (6-4) lasted into the eight inning for the Bonnies. Britton was credited with seven runs on eight hits and struck out five.

The big hit of the ball game came in the third inning with the bases loaded and the Spiders clinging to a 1-0 lead. Richmond's Joe Mahoney then delivered a grand slam over the right center wall to give the Spiders a 5-0 lead. It was Mahoney's league leading 17th homer of the season.

Both of St. Bonaventure's runs came in the final two innings on an RBI single from right fielder T.J. Pennino and a sacrifice fly from two-time A-10 Player of the Year Brian Pellegrini.

The Bonnies stranded 11 runs on base as they pounded out eight hits and were issued five walks. Junior Randy Moley was the only multi-hit player for St. Bonaventure with a pair of singles.
