Three first half goals by Saint Louis sink Bonnies

SAINT LOUIS, Mo. - The St. Bonaventure men's soccer team dropped a 4-0 contest against A-10 foe #18 Saint Louis on Friday night under the lights at Hermann Stadium.

With the loss, St. Bonaventure drops to 4-5-4 overall and 2-3-1 in the conference, while Saint Louis improves to 8-2-5 overall and 4-2 in the A-10.

Saint Louis dominated the Brown and White on the offensive end all evening, outshooting the Bonnies 20-5.

The Billikens got on the board first in the 28th minute, when junior Kyle Hayes slid in a rebound attempt off a previous save by Bonnie goalkeeper David Flynn to put Saint Louis on the board, 1-0.

Saint Louis was not done yet however, as they scored two more first half goals within two minutes of each other. Freshman Keegan Smith received a cross from Hayes in the 40th minute and headed it by Flynn to increase the Billikens lead to 2-0.

The home team would strike again only a minute later, when in the 41st minute the Billikens leading scorer, senior Kyle Patterson, hammered home another goal to put Saint Louis up 3-0 going into halftime.

Saint Louis added another insurance goal in the 71st minute on a 10-yard shot by Brandon Barklage making the score 4-0.

For the Bonnies, junior Samuel Maheu led the offensive attack with two shots on goal, while teammates John Darrah and Joe Miller each tallied one shot on goal apiece.

Despite giving up four goals in the contest, Flynn also made six saves in net for the Bonnies.

St. Bonaventure returns to action on Sunday, November 2, when they travel to Charlotte. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Transamerica Field.
