Brown and White fall 77-59 against Falcons

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - St. Bonaventure went into a hostile environment at Anderson Arena on Sunday afternoon and dropped a 77-59 decision against a sharp-shooting Bowling Green squad.

Bowling Green shot an even 50 percent (27-54) from the field and 47 percent (8-17) from three-point land for the game.The Falcons made seven of their eight three-pointers in the first half.

St. Bonaventure was not able keep its momentum going after beating then No. 21/24 ranked Michigan State, 63-52, last Sunday at the Reilly Center.

Bowling Green improves to 7-2 with the win, its seventh in a row, while the Bonnies fall to 6-2.

Dana Mitchell led the Bonnies with 12 points, moving her into 13th place on the St. Bonaventure career points list. Katelyn Murray, who was the star of the Bonnies upset win over the Spartans, was held to just 10 points for the game on 4-of-6 shooting from the field.

Megan Van Tatenhove had a solid game for the Bonnies, chipping in nine points while collecting seven rebounds in the loss.

Cara Gustafson converted a beautiful back-door lay-up off a pretty pass from Priscilla Edwards making the score 7-5 Bona with 16:06 remaining in the first half.

Bowling Green would grab the lead back thanks to a Niki McCoy three-pointer, putting the Falcons up, 15-13.

A rare four-point play by Lauren Prochaska, who poured in 18 first-half points, extended the Falcon lead to 20-13, with 10:27 to go in the first half.

A lay-in by Ashley Edwards would bring the Bonnies within six at 27-21.

The Falcons would close out the half, however, on a 13-7 run to take a 40-28 lead going into half.

The Bonnies came out strong to start the second half with back-to-back scores from Murray and Priscilla Edwards to cut the Falcon lead down to seven at 40-33, with 18:21 to go in the game.

A three-pointer by Priscilla Edwards would bring the Bonnies to within five at 45-40. Unfortunately, this would be the closest the Brown and White would come for the rest of the game.

A three-pointer by Tracy Pontius would push the Falcon lead back up to double digits at 50-40.

Back-to-back transition lay-ups by Jessica Slagle would extend the Bowling Green advantage up to 13.

Bowling Green would then rip off an 11-0 run in the ensuing four minutes that would put the game out of reach.

St. Bonaventure would end the run with a pair of free-throws by Mitchell to make the score 69-47, with 7:45 remaining in the game.

The Bonnies would never seriously threaten the Falcons, as Bowling Green kept its lead above 15 points for the duration of the game.

The Brown and White shot 46 percent (21-46) from the field and 85 percent (12-14) from the line for the game. Bowling Green shot an even 50 percent (27-54) from the field and 47 percent (8-17) from three-point land for the game.

The Falcons were led by Prochaska who poured in 24 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field, including four-of-six from the three-point line. Teammate Niki McCoy netted 19 points, 10 of which game in the second half, on 7-for-12 shooting for the game.

The Brown and White return to action on Wednesday as they travel to Niagara to take on their fellow Big 4 rival. Tip-off is scheduled for 11 am.
