AT A GLANCE
St. Bonaventure survived its four games in six days, starting at
4-0 for the third consecutive season and the fifth time in program
history. The Bonnies are now 2-0 against Big 4 rivals. St.
Bonaventure plays away from home before a short break for
Thanksgiving. They are back in action on Sunday, Nov. 29 against
Bryant in the Reilly Center. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
SERIES HISTORY
This is the first meeting with the Leopards since 1996 when the
Bonnies played Lafayette in the Manhattan Tournament, winning
68-60. Their previous meeting was in 1985 when St. Bonaventure was
in Division II.
Scouting the Leopards
Lafayette is currently on a two-game skid, losing to Bryant and
Fairfield last week. The Leopards return two starters (LaKeisha
Wright and Elizabeth Virgin) from last year's squad that
finished seventh in the Patriot League with a 10-22 overall record
and 2-12 in their conference. Wright currently leads the Leopards,
averaging 9.3 points per game. Senior Amanda Smith steps into a
starting role this season, grabbing 5.0 boards per game.
Bonnies In NOVEMBER
St. Bonaventure is 25-7 under head coach Jim
Crowley in November. With six games in the first month of
the season, the Bonnies look to beat the program record of five
wins in November. Below is a look at how the current Bonnies have
fared in the first month of the season.
In Our DEFENSE
The Bonnies have held all of their opponents opponents to under 50
points and under 45 percent shooting. Only four players have scored
double-digits against the Brown and White, while Akron did not have
any players score more than six points. Akron only scored 37 points
marking the second time in as many seasons that an opponent was
held under 40. Last season, the Bonnies shut down Yale, allowing
only 35 points to be scored. The Brown and White have forced their
opponents into 56 turnovers in three games.
No TRAIL Mix
The Bonnies have only trailed for 2 minutes and nine seconds in
160 minutes of play and the trail was only by two points. Canisius
was able to score the opening basket to lead, but senior Andrea
Doneth opened the scoring and that would be the closest the Griffs
came to the lead. Akron was within two points, 3:00 into the
Bonnies home opener, but the Bonnies would not let the Zips come
within seven points of their lead through the game.
STARTING off STRONG
St. Bonaventure survived its four games in six days, starting at
4-0 for the third consecutive season and the fifth time in program
history. The Bonnies are now 2-0 against Big 4 rivals and will face
Buffalo on December 9 to see if they can sweep the area foes. This
is the third season that that Bonnies have defeated Binghamton in
their opening four games. In 2008, the Bonnies pushed past the
Bearcats, 66-51 in the home-opener at the Reilly Center. The season
before, they beat Binghamton 58-53 in the St. Bonaventure Shootout
in Elmira, N.Y.
HELPING OUT where she can
Senior Andrea Doneth is just 34 assists away from
breaking into the top 10 on the all-time assists list. She
currently has 229, leading the team with ten so far this season.
Beth Gromlowicz currently holds the 10th spot with 263 from
1989-92.
PAINTING the town Brown
The Bonnies have a knack for in-the-paint scoring as 124 points
have come from the lane. Opponents have been held to 48 points
inside the paint as the defense shuts down inside shooting. Forty
seven percent of the Bonnies' points have come from down the
lane.
Seeing DOUBLE
Senior Dana Mitchell now has 94 double-figure
scoring games through her career, sitting at third on the all-time
list. With one more, she would move into second on the all-time
list and could surpass the top spot with three more games of
double-figures, beating out Hilary Waltman who has 98. The record
has stood for almost 10 years.
We'll take your CHARITY
St. Bonaventure currently leads the Atlantic 10 rankings in
free-throw percentage, going 81.6 percent from the line. Sophomore
Jessica Jenkins is still perfect, nodding an
8-for-8 mark from the charity stripe. Redshirt sophomore
Armelia Horton and freshman Chelsea
Bowker are both perfect from the line. Senior Dana
Mitchell is 10-for-11 while classmate Andrea
Doneth is 8-for-10 adding to the strong percentage.
Give it a SECOND CHANCE
The team has exploded in their second halves, outscoring opponents
135-93. The Bonnies also pull down more rebounds in the second half
than their opponent, outrebounding them 70-45. Senior Dana
Mitchell put up six field goals and two from the charity
stripe in the second stanza against Canisius (11/17). Sophomore
Jessica Jenkins had a big second half against the
Bearcats, knocking in three trifectas and a jumper for 11 points to
lead the team in scoring at Binghamton. Freshman Chelsea
Bowker putting up two three-pointers and two from the line
in the second half against Akron.
Double your Pleasure, Double your Fun
St. Bonaventure has had at least two players score in double
figures in each game. Dana Mitchell has scored at least 15 points
in each of the four match ups, while Jessica Jenkins scored double
digits in all but the Akron game when she hit eight points.
Megan Van Tatenhove has hit doubles in two games
while other starters Andrea Doneth and
Armelia Horton have hit in one game.
