a six-game winning streak for its best start in program history.
The six-game streak also matches a Division I program best. The
Bonnies continue to hold their opponents to under 50 points and 45
percent shooting to lead the A-10 in scoring defense and scoring
margin.
SERIES HISTORY
This is the first meeting between Quinnipiac and St. Bonaventure.
The Bonnies are 22-3 all-time against Northeast Conference
opponents. The Brown and White are 1-0 against Northeast Conference
this season, beating Bryant on Sunday 66-43. The third NEC team
that St. Bonaventure meets this season is Fairleigh Dickinson on
December 19 at the Reilly Center.
Scouting the Bobcats
Quinnipiac (1-2)won its first game against New Hampshire (3-2) on
Sunday afternoon 68-54 after opening on a two-game skid. Redshirt
freshman Felicia Barron leads the Bobcats scoring 12.0 ppg, while
sophomore Jacinda Dunbar leads off the glass pulling down 8.0 rpg.
Quinnipiac's bench was the difference maker against UNH
scoring 20 against the Wildcat's 12. The Bobcats also scored
24 second chance points.
Bonnies In DECEMBER
St. Bonaventure is 35-31 under head coach Jim Crowley in December.
With six games in the first month of the season, The Bonnies set a
program record of six wins in November and look to do the same in
December. Below is a look at how the current Bonnies have fared in
the first month of the season.
UNDER PRESSURE
St. Bonaventure's opponents are having a tough time scoring
on the A-10's most tenacious defense, as the undefeated
Bonnies continue to limit their competitors to under 50 points
(42.7) and 45 percent shooting (35.4) -- both league bests. On
November 15, Akron only scored 37 points marking the second time in
as many seasons that an opponent was held under 40. Last season,
the Bonnies shut down Yale, allowing only 35 points to be
scored.
STARTING off STRONG
St. Bonaventure is 6-0 on the young season for the first time in
program history. It survived its four games in six days, to start
4-0 for the third consecutive season and the fifth time in program
history. In the Atlantic 10, St. Bonaventure is one of two schools
who are still unbeaten, #9/10 Xavier also has a 5-0 record.
Double your Pleasure, Double your Fun
St. Bonaventure has had at least two players score in double
figures in each game. Dana Mitchell has scored at
least 15 points in five of the six match ups, while Jessica
Jenkins have hit doubles in four games. Other starters
Megan Van Tatenhove has three double figure games
and Andrea Doneth and Armelia
Horton posting in one game.
HELPING OUT where she can
Senior Andrea Doneth is just 28 assists away from
breaking into the top 10 on the all-time assists list. She
currently has 235, leading the team with 16 so far this season.
Beth Gromlowicz currently holds the 10th spot with 263 from
1989-92.
STAR Sophs
Sophomores Jessica Jenkins and Megan Van
Tatenhove are second and third on the team in points
averaging 12.8 and 11.3 per game, respectively. Jenkins has 77
points while Van Tatenhove has 68. Van Tatenhove has burst onto the
scene having two consecutive game-high scoring games against
Niagara and Lafayette. Jenkins led the way against Binghamton and
Bryant.
FRESH Meat
Freshmen Alaina Walker and Chelsea
Bowker have seen time in all six games putting up an
average of 6.5 points per game between the two. Walker had a
game-high nine rebounds against Akron in the home opener, while
Bowker wast perfect from the floor. Classmates Cyndra Couch and
Colleen Kiss have seen time in three of the six contests.
PAINTING the town Brown
The Bonnies have a knack for in-the-paint scoring as 186 points
have come from the lane. Opponents have been held to 86 points
inside the paint as the defense shuts down inside shooting. Forty
eight percent of the Bonnies' points have come from down the
lane.
Seeing DOUBLE
Senior Dana Mitchell has 96 double figure scoring
games through her career to move into second on the all-time list.
She could surpass the top spot with two more games of
double-digits, beating out Hilary Waltman who has 98. The record
has stood for almost 10 years.
