Box Score
RICHMOND, Va. -
Junior Molly Hastrich scored five goals for the second straight game, but it wasn't enough as the St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse team dropped its Atlantic 10 opener to Richmond, 17-15, on Friday afternoon at First Market Stadium.
The loss drops the Brown and White's record to an even 4-4 on the season and 0-1 in A-10 play. Richmond, on the other hand, picked up its first win of the season, after playing a grueling out of conference schedule, to improve to 1-9 on the season and 1-0 in conference play.
Leading the way for the St. Bonaventure on the offensive end was Hastrich, who scored five goals in the game on nine shots. Senior Keri Vito had a solid game as well for the Bonnies, tying her season-high with three goals in a losing effort.
Getting the start in net for the Brown and White was junior Tori Waheibi. Waheibi logged 45:42 minutes of time between the pipes, allowing 12 goals while making 13 saves in the loss.
The game was a virtual wash in almost every statistical category. Richmond barely out-shot the Bonnies 38-37 and corralled just two more grounds ball than the Brown and White on the day, 19-17.
An unassisted goal by Hastrich would put the Bonnies up 7-4 with just 8:03 left in the first half. Richmond, however, would rally over the final six minutes of the stanza scoring three straight goals to make the score 7-7 going into intermission.
The team would come out to start the second half trading goal for goal. Another Hastrich tally, her fourth of the game, off a pass from freshman Emily Kane would tie the game back up at 13-13 with just 16:43 left in regulation.
Richmond then broke the game open with three consecutive goals to push its lead up to 16-13. The Bonnies would score twice more, but a goal from sophomore Anne Ryan, with just two minutes remaining, made the score 17-14 Spiders and put the game out of reach.
Freshman Victoria Roebuck came in to relieve junior Erica Marrocco in net and made four saves in 25:10 of action to pick up the win.
Four Spiders scored multiple goals on the afternoon led by freshman Caitlin Fifield who scored four goals in the win.
The Brown and White will stay on the road as they travel northward to take on A-10 foe George Washington. Game time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. and can be followed through Game Tracker on www.GOBONNIES.com.
