ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. -
Xavier scored the first eight seven runs of the game and never looked back as it cruised to a 10-4 win over St. Bonaventure on Friday afternoon in the second game of three-game A-10 set at Fred Handler Park.
The third and deciding game of the series will be played on Saturday starting at 12 p.m.
Freshman Sebastian Bellitto (3-2) had the roughest outing of his young career, giving up eight runs on seven hits in just three innings of work in the loss. Sophomore Dennis Sherba gave the Brown and White a chance to get back into the game with five strong innings in relief, but the Bonnies were only able to climb to as close as four, at 8-4.
The Xavier win is the first by a visiting team in the last eight games in the all-time series. St. Bonaventure slips to 14-10 with the loss and 4-6 in A-10 action. The Musketeers improve to 16-12 and 6-5 in the league.
XU starter Danny Rosenbaum kept the Bonnies off the scoreboard until the fourth inning, as he improved to 3-3 on the season. Rosenbaum, a lefty, gave up four runs on eight hits and recorded eight strikeouts.
The Brown and White were limited to just eight hits on the afternoon, breaking their streak of four consecutive games with at least 10 hits. Sophomore Ryan Mosher led the way with his second multi-hit game of the series, going 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Sophomore Jesse Bosnik had the team's lone extra-base hit of the day with an RBI double down the right field line.
Xavier scored in each of the first three innings en route to building its 8-0 lead.
