Scouting the Cavaliers
Virginia travels back to its home court after taking a victorious
western road trip to Colorado on Saturday. Cavalier All-American
guard Monica Wright led all scorers with 24 points and moved into
sole possession of second place on Virginia's all-time
scoring list. Virginia is currently on a three-game winning streak
Wright has led in scoring in 10 games and is the only Cavalier
averaging double figures with 21.2 ppg.
This Day in BONA BASKETBALL
St. Bonaventure is 4-4 on January 4, dating back to the 1986-87
season - the final season that has actual dates recorded. The Brown
and White's last win on this day was against Ivy League foe
Yale 68-35 to close out the 2008-09 non-conference schedule.
Not so JOYFUL JANUARY
St. Bonaventure is 35-42 under head coach Jim
Crowley in January. Below is a look at how the current
Bonnies have fared in the third month of the season.
FOUR-tunately
In the December 20 NCAA stats, the Bonnies are ranked fourth in
the nation in three different catagories: scoring defense (50.0
ppg), free-throw percentage (78.0) and 3-point field-goal
percentage (42.1).
MANIC MONDAYS
The Bonnies have only played one other game on a Monday - the loss
against nationally-ranked Michigan State. The Virignia game is the
final Monday game for the Bonnies.
UNDER PRESSURE
The Bonnies continue to limit their competitors to under 45
percent shooting per game (37.1) and holding opponents to an
average 50.0 points per contest -- both league bests.
National RECOGNITION
The Bonnies have garnered votes in the Associated Press (AP) Top
25 and USA Today/ESPN Polls four weeks in a row.
FAR and AWAY
St. Bonaventure is pretty comfortable on hostile opponent courts
going 13-9 in its last 22 away games.
NON-Conference Schedule
St. Bonaventure's 12 non-conference victories surpassed last
season's 11 out-of-conference wins. for a program best.
SIX Minutes left to Go
The team explodes in the second half, outscoring opponents
410-289. With six minutes left in the second half, the Bonnies have
held a double-digit lead in all of their victories. The biggest
lead (31) with six minutes left was against IUPUI at the Christmas
City Classic.
It's Raining Threes
The Brown and White have scored at least one three-pointer in 176
games dating back to 2004. The last time the Bonnies failed to
convert a three-point basket in a game was on February 14, 2004
against Temple.
Now BOARDING
The Bonnies have outrebounded their opponents in 10 games. The
biggest margin was against Canisius with 14.
Sixth Women
Junior Cara Gustafson and freshmen
Chelsea Bowker and Alaina Walker
have been the Bonnies' go-to women off the bench. Bowker has
a knack for long range to assist in averaging 5.1 points per game
while Walker and Gustafson add 3.5 and 3.0 respectively.
“Three” to be you and me
Sophomore Jessica Jenkins is one three-pointer
away from entering the top 10 list. She currently has 75. Casey
Comoroski is 10th with 76.
She'll take that
Junior Cara Gustafson has had 12 of her team-high
19 steals in the month of December.
LEADER of the pack
Senior Dana Mitchell is second in the A-10 in
scoring after four consecutive games of scoring 18 points or more
to average 17.1 points per game.
