BUFFALO, N.Y. – The men's soccer team (4-4-0),
playing on eight days of rest, bounced back from a
shutout loss its last time out to defeat Big 4 rival Canisius
(0-6-1) on its home turf Friday night, 2-1.
In their second-to-last test before Atlantic 10 Conference action
begins, the Brown and White got its second goal of the season from
veteran defender David
DiNardo off a set piece in the 78th minute. The senior crept up
the pitch following a foul and headed home his second tally of the
year off the foot of freshman Brad
Vanino.
The Bonnies got on the board first with a goal in the 23rd minute
from senior midfielder Brett Allen. The
Rochester, N.Y., native – who entered the week third in the
A-10 in goals scored – found the back of the net for the
fourth time this year off freshman Emmett
O'Connor's first collegiate assist. O'Connor beat his defender
and fired a pass across to Allen, who tapped the ball past Canisius
keeper Kareem Gray.
Canisius, which out of 200 Division I men's soccer teams started
the week ranked last in total goals scored with just one, netted
the equalizer in the 36th minute. Off a free kick, Sam Zarka
flicked a pass on to Justin Montero who deposited his shot from
about seven yards out, beating netminder David
Flynn.
However, Flynn needed to make just one save the rest of the night
to earn his third win of the 2010 campaign.
The Bonnies will return to action quickly as they finish off their
non-conference slate against visitor Niagara on Sunday at 2 p.m. at
McGraw-Jennings Field.
