Final of series to be played at 5:40 p.m. on Saturday
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — After a wild offensive
game on Friday night, St. Bonaventure failed to find any kind of
rhythm at the plate in Saturday's first game, falling to
Charlotte 10-2 in the second game of the Atlantic 10 series at
Hayes Stadium.
The third and final game will start at 5:40 p.m. Live stats for
the game can be found at www.Charlotte49ers.com. The
Bonnies (4-10) will look to rid themselves of their 0-2 start to
A-10 play.
Sophomore left-hander Nick Brennen got the
start on the mound and was able to limit Charlotte to just one run
over the first three innings and a two-run third gave the Bonnies
the early 2-1 lead. After sophomore Michael Grieco
worked a two-out walk, junior Derek Speaker
doubled down the left field line to give the Brown and White two
runners in scoring position. Freshman Jason Radwan
followed with a two-run single into center field in the very next
at-bat to make it 2-1.
Unfortunately, that would be the last lead of the game for St.
Bonaventure, as the 49ers plated three runs in their half of the
fourth and six more in the sixth off the Bona bullpen to take a
commanding 10-2 lead.
The Bonnies only managed one of their four hits over the final
six innings and never staged a comeback. Speaker accounted for two
of the hits, going 2-for-4 with the third inning double and a run
scored. Junior Jesse Bosnik extended his hit
streak to 12 games with a double to right center in the sixth, but
was stranded at third base.
Brennen's five innings of work featured a career-high
seven strikeouts, but he was tagged for the loss to fall to 1-2 on
the season. Sophomore Jordan Crane tossed the
sixth and seventh innings and was touched up for six runs. Redshirt
sophomore Michael Pease tossed a scoreless ninth.
