BONA Bullets
- St. Bonaventure finished in a four-way tie for fourth
place with Duquesne, Charlotte and Saint Joseph's,
but did not own a tiebreaker over any of the teams and received a
seventh seed
- Seven/Ten Match Up - The Bonnies enter the No.
7/No. 10 match up on Friday for the fourth time in the past four
years. In 2007, the No. 10 Bonnies upset No. 7 UMass 63-60 in the
first round. In 2008, No. 10 Rhode Island beat No. 7 St.
Bonaventure 61-49. Last season, No. 7 Bona beat No. 10 Saint
Joseph's 72-65, to advance to the quarterfinals.
- Senior Dana Mitchell became the first
women's basketball player in Bona history to have her jersey
retired after leading the Bonnies to a 78-46 record through four
years. She is second all-time scoring with 1,934 points and made
field goals with 718.
- The Bonnies finished 5-3 in conference road games to
set a program record besting the four A-10 road
wins from the 1990-91 season when Bonaventure beat UMass, Rhode
Island, Rutgers and Duquesne on their own courts.
- The Brown and White have hit at least one
three-pointer in 191 consecutive games dating back to
2004. The last time the Bonnies failed to convert a three-point
basket in a game was on February 14, 2004 against Temple.
- St. Bonaventure has beaten nine Atlantic 10
foes by double-digits. The Bonnies had six combined
double-digit conference wins in the past four seasons.
- TOP 10 in the nation - In the March 1 NCAA
statistics, the Bonnies ranked in the top-10 in the nation in four
categories - fifth in free-throw percentage (80.3), ninth in
scoring defense (52.7), seventh in three-point percentage (38.5)
and in turnovers per game (13.6).
- With the win at Rhode Island, the Brown and
White set a program-record with 21 regular season
victories, breaking last year's record of 20 wins.

Scouting the Billikens
Saint Louis enters the tournament winning three out of its last
four games including an upset of now fourth-seeded Charlotte on
Feb. 18. Three players are averaging double digits with Lauren
Woods' leading the way with 13.9 ppg. Amanda Kemezys is third
in the A-10 in rebounding grabbing 9.3 per game and just set the
single-season rebounding record with 269. She has also averaged
14.2 points in the last five games. Saint Louis is 1-3 in Atlantic
10 tournament games since joining the conference in 2005-06.
This Day in BONA BASKETBALL
The Bonnies are 0-3 on March 5 dating back to the 1986-87 season -
the last season that has actual dates recorded. The Bonnies last
lost to La Salle 50-45 in the 2004 Atlantic 10 Tournament.
Series Note
The teams have split the series with each team winning on its own
court. This will be the first time the teams meet on a neutral
floor.
LAST TIME against the Billikens
The Bonnies defeated Saint Louis in the conference opener this
season 75-63. Sophomore Megan Van Tatenhove missed
the game due to injury, but redshirt sophomore Armelia
Horton filled her abscence, hitting a career-high 18
points, scoring 12 of them from the line. Dana
Mitchell led all scorers with 22 points and classmate
Andrea Doneth pitched in a season-high 12 points
only missing one basket (5-for-6) and two at the line and also
dished out a team-high four assists. The difference maker was the
Bonnies' advantage from the free-throw line, as the
A-10's leading foul-shooting team was 28-of-35 to the
Billikens' 16-of-21.
We're going STREAKING
The Bonnies are on a four-game winning streak, marking the first
time since their 11-0 start to have won more than four games in a
row. The longest in program history was the 11-0 mark to start the
season.
Not-so LEADING SCORERS
St. Bonaventure held its last three opponents' leading
scorers to under their double-figure averages. Richmond's
Brittani Shells and Duquesne's Samantha Pollino were held to
two points while Rhode Island's Megan Shoniker scored
nine.
From DOWN TOWN
Sophomore Jessica Jenkins has hit at
least two three-pointers in 19 games this season. She sits in
fourth in single-season three pointers made with 76 needing just
two more to claim third.
The “SOPH”-ter side of things
Sophomore Megan Van Tatenhove is second on the
team in scoring (11.6) after posting six team-high point
performances. The Wisconsin native set a career-high 28 points
against Quinnipiac.
Under PRESSURE
The Bonnies scoring defense ranks ninth in the nation and first in
the Atlantic 10 allowing 52.7 points per game. St. Bonaventure has
held 20 of its opponents to under 60 points.
Seeing DOUBLE
Senior Dana Mitchell broke a 10-year old record
and now has 109 double figure scoring games through her career to
sit first on the all-time list. Hilary Waltman is now in second
with 98.
BUZZER to BUZZER
The team has led wire to wire nine times this season and have won
by an average of nearly 22 points
From the LINE
St. Bonaventure made more free throws than its opponent attempted
for the ninth time this season at Duquesne. The Bonnies made
25-of-30 at Rhode Island while the Rams only had four tries.
LEADING Scorers
Dana Mitchell, and sophomores Megan Van
Tatenhove and Jessica Jenkins lead in
scoring. The Bonnies have not finished a season with three
double-figure averages since 2001-02 when Courtney Mattingly,
Gellaine Clarke and Melissa Fazio averaged double-digits.
Going LONG
The Bonnies have made four or more three-pointers in 24 out of
their 29 games. They scored a season-high nine at Quinnipiac and
against Buffalo.
WINNING the second 20
In the second half, the Bonnies outscored their opponents in all
but seven games. In three of their eight losses, they actually
outscored their oppenents in the second 20 minutes.
MOVING on Up (in the books)
Preseason All-Conference first team selection Dana Mitchell moved
into the second spot on the all-time scoring list after scoring 20
points against George Washington. She now has 1,934 points and
trails the top spot held by Hilary Waltman by 172 points.
Scouting the Flyers
Dayton enters the Championship on a three-game winning streak and
posted its best finish in A-10 action earning a No. 2 seed and a
first round bye. The Flyers leading scorer, Justine Raterman, is
the only player averaging double-digits despite Dayton ranking
second in offensive output in the A-10 (71.4 ppg) as the Flyers
have a consistent 10-player deep lineup. Sophomore Patrice Lalor
ranks third in the A-10 in assists per game (4.1) while classmate
Casey Nance is first in blocks with 2.0 per game. In conference
play, two of Dayton's losses were at the hands of regular
season champion Xavier.
This Day in BONA BASKETBALL
The Bonnies are 1-4 on March 6 dating back to the 1986-87 season -
the last season that has actual dates recorded. The Bonnies won on
this date last season against Saint Joseph's in the opening
round of the A-10 Tourney.
Series Note
The Flyers are the only team to have beaten the Bonnies by
double-digits this season. The only meeting between the two teams
in the A-10 tourney was in the 1998 opening round when Bona
defeated the Flyers, 82-69.
